LENOX - It may surprise longtime Berkshirites that the most classically chic bar and restaurant in between Great Barrington and Williamstown was once the sunlit neighborhood joint known throughout much of the 1990s as The Roseborough Grill. Even more surprising, perhaps, is that the business never changed hands.

Firefly, like the Roseborough, is helmed by chef and proprietor Laura Shack. The vast stylistic differences between the two eateries is a testament to her range as a restaurateur.

For the sake of context, picture downtown Lenox at 8 on a midweek night in April. If vacant parking lots, solitary silhouettes walking their golden retrievers, and "Closed" signs hung in shop windows come to mind, then you have a firm grasp in pre-season Lenox.

Now picture an ordinary door in the midst of these humdrum climes that, when pulled open, leads into a bustling cocktail lounge attached to a red lighted, mirror-lined art nouveau dining room hosting some of the best-dressed people in the Berkshires.
